On the very first day here at ilead we were tasked with designing and building a boat to race the rest of the students. First we had to build a scale prototype that could hold enough weight to be effective at full scale. our prototype, seen below, was able to hold all the weight we had outside.
Once we discovered that our prototype would hold weight we started work on our full scale boat. Our theme for the boat was bananas so we made the boat yellow and we placed a half rotten banana in the paddle. Our boat was able to float and hold some weight but unfortunately it flipped over due to rocking.
Puzzle Cubes
For this project each student designed their own puzzle cube. Then we all built a model out of 0.75 inch wooden cubes. Next we separated into groups and chose which cube we wanted to built a larger version of. During this project we learned how to use many of the power tools that we have in our maker space, such as the métier saw and the jig saw.
Selfieometry
Selfieometry is a project in which you include at least 7 geometry vocabulary words into a presentation and at least 7 words into a sculpture or other piece you've built. the piece I built included line segments, rays, distance along a line, supplementary angles, complementary angles, vertical angles, and point. The piece I made is seen below.
Instant fling machine
In this project we where tasked with making a catapult that can fling vexballs or bell peppers as far as possible. we started with a prototype that was made out of popsicle sticks, hot glue, masking tape and a spoon. The prototype worked well so we didnt make many changes. After we finished th prototype data sets we started brreaking apart pallets and building our full scale catapult. At first our catapult was only shootig about 15-20 feet so our fist solution was to add more bungie cords for more force, after that it was shooting about 30 feet. The next solution was to add a torque rope to increase the power even more. After that it was shooting up to 50 feet.
CHristmas Ornament
For this project we where tasked with making a christmas ornament for a resient of a local nursing home. My resident was named Bill, and this is what i made him...
World Civ Project
For my wold civ project i read an article about how the muslim and catholic comunities where coming together after the murder of a local preist. Scine the two comunities where coming together I decided make an important symbol from each religeon intertwinded just like the people of that comunity.
Maker Day Project
For this project we had an entire day to learn something new and interesting. So me and my friend noah decided to learn Robot C which is what ILead uses to program their vex robots, and since Owen County just switched over to Robot C we need to learn how to do it. So we spent all day building a simple robot and learning the basics of Robot C.
Automoblox Project
For this project we where tasked with building a new brand of automobloxs. My group decided on a WW1 theme, so i decided to build a tank from the first world war. The tank i built was the mark V landship. It was very difficult to build because i had to make it in multiple different parts and i had a size constraint of 12in by 6 in by 6 in.
TSA Project
For this project my friend Noah and I, along with a friend of ours from Owen County, created a Vex robot. This year we have had a lot of trouble getting the robot to work and for it to work well. We started out with a normal arm with a forklift thing on the end to pick up the stars. Because this was not working well we decided to switch to a claw and to change the towers to where they where closer together.
Reverse Engineering Project
For this project we where tasked with taking apart something and rebuilding it in Autodesk Inventor. While we where taking it apart and rebuilding it we also had to do a visual, functional and structural analysis. For the visual analysis we had to look at the object that we where going to take apart and describe its visual aspects. For the functional analysis we where tasked with describing how each part of the object works. Finally, for the structural analysis we had to describe what the object was made pf and why. The object that I made was a nerf gun, it is shown below.
